Costs and money in Hungary:![]() Hungary is still an inexpensive place for foreign travellers. If you won't spend your time in night clubs, you can get away with $40-$70 USD a day. It's been already more than 20 years since the transition from socialism to liberal democracy and market economy, so you can basicly buy in Hungary most of what you are used to at home and it makes you happy specially when you can do it for less money. You can exchange your foreign cash at banks, travel agents, shopping centers and exchange offices in the shopping area. Usually there is no commission. ATMs can be found throughout the country, accepting both credit and debit cards. Traveller's cheques are not accepted very widely, or in case they are, then at quite low rates, so it is better to walk around with some cash or/and a bank card. Hungarian society is very tip conscious. Never forget to tip waiters and taxi drivers. Tip is about 10% - 12% of the total amount. The Hungarian currency is Forint (HUF). We give you some indicatory prices just to make sure you get the picture:
More and more shopping centers open in Hungary, especially in Budapest so in this aspect Hungary is becoming more westernized. If you are interested in buying hand-made folklore products, search for them in Váci utca or in the Castle Hill area and if you are focused on buying real antiques than we recommend you to visit Falk Miksa utca or go to the Ecseri Flea-Market. On weekends there is an open-air flea market of private people selling their stuff from home, it is in Petőfi Csarnok. In case of good weather it worths a visit. ![]() |
